Begovic Hopes For Cherries Stay

Asmir Begovic says he isn’t looking for a move away from Bournemouth and hopes to re-establish himself as their first choice keeper. The Bosnian shot-stopper began the previous campaign as the Cherries’ first choice but dropped down the pecking order and managed just two appearances in the final 15 Premier League games of the campaign.

Begovic missed out on the match-day squads altogether for the final two games of the season as manager Eddie Howe preferred Artur Boruc and Mark Travers preferred, leading to speculation he could be on the move in the summer transfer window.

Former club Stoke have been linked with the 32-year-old, while Watford and Fenerbahce have also been linked, but Begovic intends to remain with Bournemouth and fight for a starting spot. He told the Daily Star: “I’m fresh, recharged and ready for another gruelling season.

“I’ll be reporting back with the priority to prove to the boss I’m there to compete for the keeper’s shirt against Sheffield United on the opening weekend.” He added: “I’m happy at Bournemouth. I have three years left on my contract and nobody has told me officially I’m surplus to requirements. “But, of course, at this stage of my career, I do want to be playing as many games as possible.”
