Phillip Billing admitted the Terriers were “chasing shadows” in Sunday’s 6-1 Premier League defeat to Man City at the Etihad Stadium. The champions demonstrated their awesome football ability by handing down Huddersfield’s heaviest Premier League defeat with sparkling Sergio Aguero grabbing a hat-trick.
Billing, who made his second start of the season in midfield, made just 20 passes in 90 minutes as City dominated possession – making 791 passes in total as a team.
“We were against City and there’s not much you can do against them,” said the Danish midfielder.
“If you try to press them high, Ederson has got a good kick so he can just kick it over everyone.
“At times we sat deep, you know, it was just the same they’d always manage to find a man free. Especially when you play in midfield, it’s hard because you’re just chasing shadows.
“At the start they had a few chances early on, but so did we and we eventually scored a goal. A few mistakes happen when you’re tired and getting sloppy.”
Billing is now looking forward to an easier-looking fixture next up for the Terriers, who will look to get some points on the board against Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds.
“The season starts now, and we’ve just got to move on to Cardiff,” he told the club’s official website.
