Chelsea reportedly had a scout present to check AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli as they weigh up changes to their backline.
The futures of both Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill appear to be in doubt heading into the January transfer window with the latter having spoken about moving on in the search of more regular first-team football.
Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz have been head coach Maurizio Sarri’s prefered pairing at centre-back but it is understood the Italian is keen to bring in a relative youngster to act as their understudy.
Romagnoli, 23, is thought to be one man under consideration and will have done his chances of a move to west London no harm with a decent display in AC Milan’s 1-0 loss to local rivals Inter on Sunday.
The Italian has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United but both they and Chelsea could have a tough time persuading him to leave the San Siro, where he has developed into a first-team regular since arriving from Roma in 2015.
