Cherries Track Defender Starlet

Cherries Track Defender Starlet

Bournemouth are reported to be among the clubs tracking highly-rated Shrewsbury Town defender Rhys Davies. Davies’ stock has risen over the past season after impressive loan spells at Nuneaton Borough and Chippenham Town, and he has caught the eye of several clubs in England’s top division.

Somewhat surprisingly, the 17-year-old will not be offered a professional deal by the Shrews and has been told he will be free to find another club this summer. Davies, who is the son of former Crystal Palace defender Gareth, was recently invited for a trial at Southampton and the Saints’ coaching staff were said to have been impressed with what they saw from the defender.

However Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is also known to be tracking the situation, while there is also interest from Championship leaders Norwich City. Competition for Davies’ signature is set to be fierce this summer and the Cherries could have to move quickly to secure the youngster’s services.
