Formula 1’s commercial boss Sean Bratches has confirmed that talks are underway to hold a race in Morocco in the near future.
The F1 circuit continues to grow and if talks are successful, a Morocco GP would be the first F1 race held in Africa since 1993, when the paddock headed to South Africa.
F1 owners Liberty Media have already added races in Vietnam and the Netherlands, and Bratches admits it is “really important” that they added a race in Africa to their calendar.

The all-electric Formula E Championship already holds a street race in Marrakech and Bratches believes a race in the F1 calendar could be on the cards. He told BBC Sport: “We race on five continents and the last habitable continent that we don’t race in is Africa. “We have proactively been approached by Morocco and Marrakech to take a grand prix there.
There is a high degree of interest. “We are optimistic about the prospect of a 21-race calendar again next year. I don’t think we are going to have more than that.” Bratches will also be expected to complete talks with organisers of races in Britain, Italy, Germany, Mexico and Spain, with those contracts set to expire at the end of the season.
