Brathwaite Relishing Promotion Push

Kraigg Brathwaite has vowed to help Glamorgan secure promotion to the County Championship after joining for the final three games. The 26-year-old West Indies’ opening batsman linked up with the Welsh outfit earlier in the week as a direct replacement for Shaun Marsh, who re-joined Western Australia for pre-season preparations.

Glamorgan currently sit fourth in the Division Two table, 19 points adrift of Gloucestershire, who occupy the second promotion spot behind runaway leaders Lancashire. They have games against the bottom two sides Worcestershire and Leicestershire in their remaining fixtures, before ending the season at Durham.

And Brathwaite is determined to use his experience to give Glamorgan that extra push to get them over the line. He told the club’s website: “During the Test series against India, my agent told me that Glamorgan were in contact, and I was hoping for the best. Thankfully we got it through, I’m excited to be getting a go and I’m very happy and looking forward to the experience. I’m looking forward to doing well for the team and hopefully help them into the First Division.”

Brathwaite, who has had previous spells in county cricket with Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, added: “My main goal is to build a solid foundation for the team, once I can do that every innings, that’s the key for me. I am really looking forward to it, it’ll be tough sometimes with the weather, but it’s a great experience and hopefully helps me build a strong career.”
