Werder Bremen have completed the signing of midfielder Nuri Sahin following the cancellation of his contract at Borussia Dortmund.
The Turk made only 17 Bundesliga appearances for Peter Stoger’s side last season and was also deemed surplus to requirement by new boss Lucien Favre.
He has penned a two-year deal at his new club and will wear the number 17 shirt.
Sahin has struggled in recent seasons due to injuries but has been offered a fresh start by new manager Florian Kohfeldt.
“The talks with the owners and the coach were very good,” Sahin told the club’s official website. “Werder are a big club, where you have the feeling something is growing. I’m looking forward to being part of it.”
Kohfeldt said: “I don’t think there’s much more to say about the qualities of Nuri. He has experienced almost everything in the Bundesliga, been a champion and cup winner with Dortmund and played for Real Madrid and Liverpool.
“He has the potential to improve us further and gives us more options.”
