Browne Set To Leave Hammers For Boro

West Ham midfielder Marcus Browne is on the verge of leaving the London Stadium to join Middlesbrough on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old, who can operate on the wing or as an attacking central midfielder, came through the Hammers’ youth ranks and his only senior appearance to date came in a Europa League fixture against Astra Giurgiu in 2016.

Browne endured a disappointing six-month loan spell at Wigan in 2017, where he played in just one game, before enjoying an impressive spell at League One Oxford United last term, scoring nine goals in 46 appearances in all competitions.

It was reported he would return to the U’s after being told he is not in the plans of West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, but Boro have made a late swoop to take him to the north east.

Browne is set to pen a four-year deal at the Riverside Stadium, with the Championship side poised to pay around £300,000 for his signature. Boro had been linked with a loan swoop for Hammers winger Grady Diangana but it seems they have opted for Browne as an alternative.
