Bruce Confident Of More Signings

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce says the club have “one or two things bubbling away” in regards to potential transfers.

The Magpies broke their transfer record this summer when forking out £40million to sign forward Joelinton from Hoffenheim, while winger Allan Saint-Maximin joined from Nice for a fee worth around £20million and left-back Jetro Willems arrived on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Newcastle are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Amiens defender Emil Krafth, who will provide competition at right-back, while Monaco attacking midfielder Rony Lopes has also been linked with a switch to St James’ Park.

The north-east outfit wrapped up their pre-season with a 2-1 home win against Saint-Etienne on Saturday and confidence within the squad appears to be high heading into Sunday’s season-opener against Arsenal. Fans will be hoping to see more players arrive before the transfer window shuts on Thursday and Bruce is quietly optimistic about getting some more business done.

“We’ve got one or two things bubbling away but if it closed tomorrow, I’m delighted with what we’ve done,” he told The Chronicle. “We’ve spent a hell of a lot of money on two players, two quality players, which I think is the way forward rather than having six or eight. “The way forward now, for me anyway, is quality and you can see a bit of quality in what we’ve brought in today.”
