Bruce Determined To Keep Longstaff

New Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is expected to do all he can to try and keep Sean Longstaff at the club this summer. Bruce was appointed Newcastle manager on Wednesday as the successor to Rafael Benitez, in a move that has not proved to be popular with the Magpies faithful.

However, if he can talk Longstaff into staying, then he will see his popularity rise. The midfielder made his breakthrough under Benitez at the midway point last season and quickly established himself in the team, displacing the more experienced Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame.

His season was curtailed by injury towards the end of the campaign and he sat out the final two months. Nevertheless, his form has attracted other clubs’ attention, with Manchester United leading the chase to try and sign the 21-year-old.

A fee of £15million was apparently offered by the Red Devils but they were left stunned when Newcastle placed a £50million price-tag on his head.
