Burke Full Of Praise For Retiring Laurens

Trainer Karl Burke says he will always remember Laurens after she was retired on Saturday after running at Newmarket. The four-year-old enjoyed a fabulous three-year career, but she failed to bow out in style during Saturday’s Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes.

Billesdon Brook eventually claimed the title, with Laurens only able to finish seventh out of nine runners. Retirement had been confirmed before this weekend’s race, and she ends her career with eight victories from 17 races. Burke admits she will now return to the paddock and he says she owes him nothing after a stunning career.

He told reporters: “There are not many colts or fillies that win a Group One at two, three and four – so for her to do that is fantastic. “It wasn’t to be, but she owes us nothing. She looked fantastic again…(and) she has shown all the right signs at home. “The races have just taken their toll. Her last two runs have probably told us that the time has come to finish, and she is off to the paddocks now. “I’m sure will be every bit as good there as she was on the racetrack.”
