Burnley Youngster Tipped For Summer Switch

Burnley are considering allowing Jimmy Dunne to turn his loan deal at Sunderland into a permanent move come the end of the season. The defender spent the first half of the current season in the SPL with Hearts and in January he finished his loan with the Edinburgh outfit and joined the Black Cats in League One.

Dunne has impressed at the heart of Jack Ross’ defence and reports claim they would like to keep him. The Irish defender is still only 21 and could yet make the grade in the top flight but technical director Mike Rigg has explained they could sell him on for a profit and then the Academy has done at least part of it’s job.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “We want to be one of the best Academies in the country, but we can’t spend what Manchester City spend, so we’ve got to do what’s right for us. “If we get a Dwight McNeil in the team, or a Jimmy Dunne is (potentially) sold to Sunderland, that’s achieved the objective.”
