Santiago Solari could be handed the Real Madrid job until the end of the season after being praised by director Emilio Butragueno. The 42-year-old Argentinian was installed as caretaker boss after the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui following the 5-1 El Clasico mauling at Barcelona at the end of last month.
And Solari has secured an immediate response from the players with Sunday’s 4-2 La Liga win at Celta Vigo their fourth successive victory under his leadership, in which time they have scored 15 goals and sit just four points off top spot.
He has refused to discuss the possibility of becoming the permanent coach, but Butragueno insisted the club’s officials were impressed with him. “The truth is that we are very happy with him,” he told Movistar+. “There is no doubt that he came at a very particular moment and has been able to achieve very good results.
“It was a very complicated game and we also had setbacks with injuries, [but] we had personality and character.”
