Calderon Slams Bale ‘Soap Opera’

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has branded Gareth Bale’s contract situation a ‘soap opera’.

The Wales international is being linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu after Zinedine Zidane returned to the club.

Bale has once again fallen out of favour under the Frenchman and he has failed to appear in any of the club’s last three La Liga games.

While many expect him to leave, the issue is complicated as a number of clubs would struggle to meet his wage demands.

Current president Florentino Perez paid £85.3million to bring him to Madrid and Calderon says the drama surrounding the situation has been playing out for far too long.

He told Sky Sports: “Nobody knows how the soap opera is going to end because president and coach have different opinions in criteria. “[Bale] is his highest signing ever and he doesn’t want to accept that he was wrong when he thought that Gareth Bale could be the leader of this team when Cristiano left. “He also hasn’t learned any single word in Spanish.

That hasn’t given him the opportunity to give any interview and to get in touch with the fans. “The fans expected that he could be able to score more goals and to play better but to be able to play like Cristiano is impossible.”
