Calvert-Lewin Aware Of Everton Expectations

Dominic Calvert-Lewin believes he can handle the responsibility that comes with being Everton’s No.9. The Blues striker says he is delighted to wear the famous shirt for the club, and, even though he’s aware of the high expectations that come with it, he’s ready to embrace them.

The striker is currently Everton’s first-choice centre-forward and will hope to build on some recent encouraging displays.

Calvert-Lewin has now made 100 appearances for the Toffees and marked the milestone on Tuesday night in style with a brace in the Carabao Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Those goals at Hillsborough were his second and third strikes of the season so far, having netted earlier this month in the 3-1 Premier League defeat at Bournemouth, and the 22-year-old is eager for more.

He told Evertontv: “With a big number like that comes big responsibility. I accepted that role and I am grateful to be wearing the number nine for Everton. It is a massive thing for me. “But the most important thing is my performances.

It doesn’t matter what number you are wearing, it is about scoring goals. I am a striker, scoring goals is what I am there to do. It is what I work on every day. I had a bit of a slow start to the season but need to take confidence from scoring two against Wednesday into the next game and kick on from there.”

Calvert-Lewin, who has 20 goals in all competitions in total for Everton, is set to keep his place in Marco Silva’s side when champions Manchester City visit Goodison Park on Saturday as they aim to build on that League Cup victory over the Owls.

Everton are down in 14th in the table before the action this weekend with just seven points on the board from their first six games.
