Cardiff Bid For Wesley Falls Short

Cardiff City have seen a £17.5m bid for Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes rejected, with the Belgian club demanding £26.5million.

Reports in Belgium claim Cardiff City turned to the Brazilian as they desperately tried to bring in a talented striker in the wake of the tragic disappearance of Emiliano Sala.

Club Brugge star Moraes, who has scored eight goals and laid on six assists this season, was said to be on their radar earlier this month – before the deal for Nantes star Sala was agreed.

Belgian media outlet Nieuwsblad claims a 20m euros (£17.5m) bid was made for the 22-year-old but that Brugge wants as much for 30m (£26.5m) for their top scorer.

Cardiff have also looked at Jupiler League top scorer Mbwana Samatta this month, but may ultimately fail to beat the deadline as time is running out to set up a deal for a striker.

Wesley will also reportedly remain a target for a potential summer swoop – even if the Bluebirds are relegated from the Premier League.
