Celades Lined Up As Marcelino Faces Valencia Axe

Marcelino Garcia Toral is reportedly facing the sack at Valencia with Spain Under-21 boss Albert Celades being lined up to replace him. The 54-year-old has been in charge of the Primera Liga outfit since May 2017 and has won exactly half of his 110 games at the helm.

Los Che stuck by Marcelino last season when they endured a miserable start and they were rewarded when he guided them to a second successive top-four finish, the Copa del Rey trophy and Europa League semi-finals.

Sporting director Mateu Alemany is the man who was key to Marcelino’s appointment and who backed him during last season’s early struggles.

However, a reported fall-out between Alemany and president Peter Lim has resulted in the former seeing his position as untenable and he is set to walk away from Los Che.

The repercussions of that are Marcelino is also now set to be removed from the Mestalla hotseat with Lim looking to bring in a new man.

That is believed to be former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Celta Vigo midfielder, Celades.
The 43-year-old replaced Julen Lopetegui at the helm of Spain’s U21s in 2014 and guided the team to the final of the 2017 European U21 Championship where they lost 1-0 to Germany.

Celades left in July 2018 and was appointed as Lopetegui’s assistant coach at Real Madrid, but departed when the manager was relieved of his duties in late October.
