Reports in the Turkish media claim Bournemouth made a £14m summer bid for Besiktas’ Domagoj Vida and may try again in January. The Cherries brought in three new players in the off-season but it seems boss Eddie Howe wanted another man in his ranks.
According to Fanatik newspaper, the Cherries tabled a bid for the Croatia defender, who enjoyed a colourful World Cup as his nation finished runners-up.
He courted controversy on a few occasions, with politically-motivated outbursts, but was part of the Vatreni side that punched above their weight to make the final.
Bournemouth’s bid was rejected, with Besiktas said to be demanding £20m for the 29-year-old centre-back.
He was linked with Liverpool over the summer as well, while a few other clubs were also said to be keen, and it remains to be seen if the Super Lig club are prepared to part company midway through the season with the man that only joined them in 2017.
