Chelsea are hopeful Andreas Christensen will overcome an illness in time to face Liverpool, while Antonio Rudiger is also a doubt. Christensen started Wednesday’s Carabao Cup third round win over the Reds but had to be replaced during the second half, the Blues later revealing he was struggling with a stomach bug.
David Luiz came on for the Denmark international at Anfield and could to be pressed into action on Saturday with concerns over the fitness of Rudiger, who will undergo a fitness check on his groin issue.
Pedro and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will also be given late fitness tests ahead of the Stamford Bridge encounter.
Pedro (shoulder) and Loftus Cheek (shin) must still prove their fitness, but are all back in training.
Chelsea became the first team to beat Liverpool this season in mid-week but boss Maurizio Sarri is expecting a completely different game and is wary of the threat posed by Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League leaders.
“It will be another match in another competition with a different level,” Sarri told reporters. “I think maybe they can increase their determination after Wednesday.
“It will always be a difficult match against a top-level team. They have worked with the same coach for four seasons and they are ready now to win the Premier League.”
