Cook Reveals Injury Agony

Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has revealed he played through the pain barrier for the last five games of the season and is looking forward to a good rest.

The 28-year-old was told his season was over after being hospitalised with an abscess on his groin, only to return to skipper the side during the 5-0 demolition of his former club Brighton.

Cook then managed to play the last four games of the season as Bournemouth went on to finish 14th in the Premier League, but says he was in pain the whole time.

Cook now gets the chance to rest up and has vowed to come back stronger next season. “I have been playing with pain for the past five games,” Cook told the Daily Echo. “I did get told my season was over, so to have squeezed those games in was nice but it has been through a lot of painkillers and a lot of managing myself. “I need to regroup, strengthen, stay fit, enjoy some time off and be ready for next season.”
