Crusaders Sweat Over All Blacks Duo

The Crusaders are sweating over the fitness of New Zealand duo Ryan Crotty and Scott Barrett ahead of Saturday’s Super Rugby final. Scott Robertson’s side will take on the Jaguares in next weekend’s showpiece match at the AMI Stadium in Christchurch, as they go in search of their third successive Super Rugby title.

The Crusaders booked their place in the final following their 30-26 victory over the Hurricanes on Saturday, although that result came at a cost due to the injuries suffered by Crotty and Barrett. Centre Crotty sustained a thumb problem, while lock Barrett picked up a finger injury and both players are now set to undergo scans on Monday to uncover the extent of the damage.

Coach Robertson certainly has his fingers crossed that neither player has suffered any broken bones, as that would not only rule them out of Saturday’s final, but also put their participation at this year’s World Cup with New Zealand in doubt.

“They’re important players for us, you know,” Robertson said. “A hundred-odd games for Crots and Scooter Barrett’s one of the best locks in the world, so we’ll see.” Crotty will be particularly desperate to feature on Saturday, as it is set to be his final appearance for the Crusaders before he joins Japanese club Kubota Spears.
