Curran Ruled Out Until 2020

England and Surrey seamer Tom Curran will be out of action until next year due to the side injury he sustained in the Vitality Blast. The 24-year-old picked up the problem during Surrey’s win over Sussex at The Oval on Thursday night and he will play no further part in the domestic season.

Curran, who was a non-playing member of England’s World Cup-winning squad and has taken 27 wickets from his 17 one-day internationals to date, will now be bidding to prove his fitness ahead of the winter tours of New Zealand and South Africa.

The paceman has also figured in 11 Twenty20 internationals for his country, while he made two Test appearances during the 2017-18 Ashes series in Australia, featuring in the Boxing Day showdown in Melbourne, as well as the following Test in Sydney.

The absence of Curran is the latest injury blow to England’s bowling attack, as fellow seamers Mark Wood and Olly Stone are also set to miss the rest of the calendar year, while a calf strain has severely restricted James Anderson’s involvement in the ongoing Ashes series.
