De Bruyne Confident Of Early Return

Kevin De Bruyne could hand Manchester City a welcome boost and return to action following the international break later this month.

The midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during the first half of last weekend’s 1-0 victory at Bournemouth, with boss Pep Guardiola fearing another lengthy lay-off.

De Bruyne has since undergone scans and the player has told members of his circle the injury is not serious and he could even be back playing before the end of the month.

City travel to face relegation battlers Fulham at Craven Cottage on March 30 – although the club’s medical staff will certainly be wary of pushing him too soon after a season already blighted by injuries.

The Belgium international missed a total of five months due to two separate knee injuries and had been playing his way back to fitness and form when he was crocked again at the Vitality Stadium.

It is understood De Bruyne has tightness in his hamstring, which the 27-year-old feels could be a direct result of his lack of games so far this year.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne’s midfield team-mate Fernandinho will resume light training duties during the international hiatus after his own hamstring issues.
