Delph Discussions On The Agenda

Manchester City chiefs are ready to discuss the possibility of Fabian Delph signing a new contract extension at the Etihad.

The England international midfielder, turned makeshift left-back under Pep Guardiola, is out of contract next year and is attracting early interest from clubs in the Premier League.

He has continued to impress his manager with his attitude and willingness to deputise for injured France star Benjamin Mendy during the last 18 months.

The Bradford-born star has seen Brazilian Danilo preferred in recent games but Guardiola is happy to retain the 29-year-old and the Citizens do not want him running down his contract any further.

Delph earns a relatively ‘modest’ £80,000-per-week and his homegrown status also makes him a valuable commodity to the reigning Premier League champions.

City would rather seek a transfer fee of around £20m this summer if they cannot reach a new agreement with the player, who will have no shortage of takers due to his vast experience.

Delph joined City from Aston Villa in controversial circumstances for £8m in 2015 and has gone on to win the Premier League title and two League Cups during his time with the Manchester giants.
