Dier Blow But Poch Says Kane Comeback Is Close

Eric Dier and Vincent Janssen are out of Sunday’s Premier League match against Leicester but Harry Kane could be back in a fortnight.

Dier, who made an appearance off the bench in the 1-0 win over Newcastle last weekend, has picked up a virus and been absent from training.

Janssen missed the first half of the season because of an ankle injury but had been declared fully fit once more after featuring in a couple of Under-23 matches recently.

However, it has emerged the Dutchman now has a knee problem, which looks set to extend his absence from competitive first-team action with Spurs – which is already over a year – even further.

Left-back Ben Davies (groin) is still unavailable while Dele Alli (hamstring) has commenced on-field rehabilitation as he looks to get back as quickly as possible.

Kane (ankle) is ahead of schedule and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino believes the striker could be ready for the clash with Burnley on February 23. “If you see him (Kane) – he’s nearly ready to play, but we need to be realistic,” Pochettino told reporters on Friday.

“I think he’s so close to being back – not for Sunday, not for Wednesday – but we’ll see after. Maybe the Burnley game, maybe.”
