The Spaniard has an ankle injury so the meeting between two of the biggest tennis stars on the planet, which was scheduled to take place in Jeddah on December 22, has now been called off.
Nadal was forced to withdraw from the ATP Tour finals in London after having an ankle operation last week and now world number one Djokovic has confirmed the eagerly-awaited meeting against the number two-ranked player will not go ahead.
Djokovic told BBC Sport: “Nadal is injured, so the match is not happening this year.”
The Serb is preparing for the ATP Finals at the O2 in London, which begin on Sunday, and he will face Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic and John Isner in the Guga Kuerten group.
Due to Nadal’s injury, Djokovic will end the year as world number one after a fantastic 2018 in which he has won both Wimbledon and the US Open.
