Dortmund Made Approach For Klopp Says Watzke

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed he made an ambitious attempt to try and lure Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp back to the club. Klopp earned legendary status with BVB after guiding the club to two Bundesliga titles during his seven-year stay, before making the switch to Liverpool following a brief break from the game.

The 52-year-old has won the Champions League with the Reds and hopes to add the Premier League title this season, with his side sitting top of the standings this season, eight points ahead of Manchester City.
However, had Watzke had his way, then Klopp would have returned to Dortmund in the summer of 2018, when he made a cheeky approach.

Klopp declined and Watzke says that came as no surprise. “I knew that Jurgen would [decline], that he will fulfil his contract in Liverpool,” Watzke wrote in his new book REAL LOVE. A life with BVB. “Jurgen has always fulfilled his contracts, but if you want to go new ways and we had to break new ground at BVB, then at least I had to ask Jurgen if he could possibly imagine that. “I did not expect that at all, but I would not have forgiven myself for not asking him at that moment.”

Klopp may have turned down the chance, but has since suggested that he could be open to a return one day, once his time with Liverpool is up.
That is unlikely to happen just yet, but the German has hinted he could leave the Reds once his contract expires in 2022.
