Wolves face a real battle to keep hold of Ruben Neves as Manchester United are also reported to have entered the running. City have already lost out to United on a couple occasions in the past with both Fred and Alexis Sanchez opting for Old Trafford, while Chelsea also pipped them to the signing of Jorginho in the summer.
Reports now claim that City boss Pep Guardiola could miss out on another target, with United ready to offer £60million for Neves when the transfer window re-opens in January.
United boss Jose Mourinho knows plenty about the silky playmaker and club insiders have admitted they thought United would be at the front of the queue due to both men sharing the same agent in Jorge Mendes.
Premier League champions, City, though, have been making discreet moves of their own in recent weeks and director of football Txiki Begiristain has been to personally run the rule over the 21-year-old, which quickly got back to United.
Mendes has clients situated at the Etihad in Nicolas Otamendi, Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson, further justifying the increasing concerns at Old Trafford.
It remains to be seen whether Wolves’ wealthy Chinese owners would even contemplate Neves’ release in the middle of a Premier League campaign, although they are minded how influential Mendes has been
in bringing members of his stable to Molineux during the last 12 months.
