Doumayrou To Miss World Cup

Doumayrou To Miss World Cup

France coach Jacques Brunel has confirmed centre Geoffrey Doumayrou will miss the upcoming World Cup due to an Achilles injury. Les Bleus are fine-tuning their preparations for the upcoming tournament in Japan and they will play Scotland in a friendly this weekend.

Doumayrou had been set to start the game but the 29-year-old now faces a few months on the sidelines due to his latest setback. Brunel had waited as long as he could to give Doumayrou time to prove his fitness but he says he must now focus on the Scotland game after confirming his absence.

He told L’Equipe: “Geoffrey Doumayrou will miss the World Cup. He suffers from a fissure injury in the Achilles tendon. The decision was made [on Thursday] morning. “We will have to replace him and we will communicate the name during the day. Scotland are a team that look like us due to their unpredictable side – they are capable of beautiful things as we saw against England during the Six Nations.

“Against the Scots, you have to prepare for anything.” Brunel will hand Alivereti Raka and Francois Cros their debuts against the Scots, with only Maxime Medard, Damian Penaud, Antoine Dupont and Greg Alldritt keeping their place from the last match against Italy.
