Dunk Eyes England Return

Defender Lewis Dunk has heeded Brighton manager Chris Hughton’s words and stated his aim is it get back into the England squad. Dunk has been included in a couple of England squads and made his debut in a 3-0 friendly win over the United States at Wembley Stadium on November 15.

However, the 27-year-old was left out of Gareth Southgate’s party to play Czech Republic and Montenegro in the European Championship qualifiers. The Three Lions went on to beat Czech Republic 5-0 and Montenegro 5-1 to sit top of Group A and put themselves in pole position to make next summer’s showpiece.

It remains to be seen if Dunk is part of that squad but, after Hughton urged the Brighton-born stopper to win back his place, Dunk has made it clear that is exactly what he intends to do. “I’ve been in the squad twice but unfortunately didn’t make the last one,” he told the West Sussex Gazette.

“I’ve just got to keep doing the business on the field and hopefully I can do that until the end of the season. “Then there’s another meet-up for the Nations League in the summer and hopefully it will be the other way round and I’ll be called in. “I’ve just got to make sure I do my talking on the pitch and hopefully I’ll do enough.”
