Edmund Facing Aussie Injury Battle

Kyle Edmund is a doubt for the Australian Open after he was forced to pull out of next week’s Sydney International due to injury.

The British number one was due to feature in the ATP event in preparation for the first Grand Slam of the season but he has confirmed his withdrawal after picking up a knee problem.

Edmund, who lost in the second round of the Brisbane International to Japan’s world number 185 Yasutaka Uchiyama on Wednesday, is now facing a race against time to be fit for the Melbourne Park spectacle.

Speaking about his injury, the 23-year-old said: “I am disappointed that I won’t be able to return to Sydney. I need to focus on my preparations for the Australian Open and do everything I can to be fit for the first Grand Slam of the year.”

Edmund enjoyed his best Grand Slam run at the 2018 Australian Open as he made the semi-finals and he will be eager to feature in this year’s event as he aims to break his duck in one of the ‘big four’ tournaments.
