Elstone Not Concerned Over Magic Weekend Ticket Sales

Super League’s chief executive Robert Elstone says he is “not losing any sleep” over reported sluggish ticket sales for the Magic Weekend at Anfield.

Elstone was behind the controversial decision to move the feature weekend, where all Betfred Super League games take place over two days at the same venue, from Newcastle’s St James’ Park to Liverpool’s home stadium.

Now reports claim ticket sales are down but Elstone is staying positive and says coaches and players he has spoken to are looking forward to the event. “I’m absolutely not losing any sleep about it,” Elstone told the Guardian.

“Talking to coaches and players, all they’re talking about is Anfield.” The weekend itself will continue in a similar format for years to come but there has been talk of moving it overseas especially with the success of Catalans Dragons and Toulouse in France and the match in Barcelona last weekend. “I would really welcome a Magic abroad,” Elstone admitted.

“There’s work to be done to getting to the stage where we find the right place, but we’re confident we could deliver it.”
