Emery Offers Jenkinson Second Chance

Unai Emery has reportedly turned to Carl Jenkinson to help fill the void left by the season-ending injury to Hector Bellerin. Bellerin damaged knee ligaments during last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Chelsea, the latest serious injury to have hamstrung Emery having already lost Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding for the remainder of the campaign.

With Holding and Bellerin unavailable, the Spaniard’s options at the back are limited and it was understood he was keen to bring in some defensive cover during the January transfer window. However, with Arsenal only willing to sign players on loan, Emery appears ready to turn to Jenkinson to help him out having previously made the 26-year-old available to go out on loan himself.

Burnley, West Bromwich Albion and Ipswich Town were all understood to be keen on signing Jenkinson but Emery has been impressed with his attitude in training and will now keep him on board.

The former Charlton youngster still finds himself down the pecking order when it comes to filling in for Bellerin at right-back with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Stephan Lichsteiner preferred.
