Newcastle United’s St James’ Park home will stage an England rugby union Test match against Italy for the first time next September. England will play in the north east as they build up for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, with the clash against the Azzurri scheduled to take place on September 6 next year.
The famous stadium last hosted rugby union when it was a venue for the 2015 World Cup in England.
The game will mark the first time the Red Rose have ever played in Newcastle and it will be their first game away from their Twickenham home since the World Cup pool game against Uruguay at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium in 2015.
“These internationals will be extremely important to the squad’s final preparations before we head out to Japan,” head coach Eddie Jones said.
“It is great news to be able to take England to another part of the country and Newcastle will be fantastic hosts like they were for the matches here in 2015.”
The game forms part of the Quilter Internationals series, which also sees England play Wales on August 11 and Ireland on August 24, both at Twickenham.11 BUSINESS NUGGETS FROM SUPER EAGLES BRONZE MEDAL TRIUMPH. The content of this ebook will propel you above your competition. Buy NOW!!!
