England ‘s World Cup Prep Hampered

England ‘s World Cup Prep Hampered

The first ODI between England and Pakistan at the Oval in London limited to just 19 overs due to rain.

Having already been delayed at the start of the match, which resulted in the game being reduced to 47 overs a side, the teams eventually took to the field with England choosing to bowl first.

Jofra Archer, who is hoping to impress enough to earn a place in Eoin Morgan’s World Cup squad, produced a fantastic opening spell and he had Fakhar Zaman (3) caught in the slips by a juggling Joe Root.

The 24-year-old went for just six runs during his four-over spell before being replaced in the attack by Liam Plunkett, who had Babar Azam edge one behind to wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.

Unfortunately, with just 16.3 overs bowled, heavy rain forced the players off the field with Pakistan struggling on 70-2.

The teams did come back out after a lengthy delay, but only a further 2.3 overs were managed before the heavens opened once again and the players headed back to the pavilion.

Play was eventually abandoned and the two teams will be hoping for better weather in the second ODI at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Saturday.
