European Goal For Evans

European Goal For Evans

Jonny Evans says Leicester’s goal for the season remains to finish in the European places. The Foxes have had an emotional few weeks following the death of owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha but managed to pick up four points from their last two games before the break.

Summer signing Evans was one of 10 players away on international duty but is back with the squad and, with Harry Maguire still sidelined due to a knee issue, looks set to start on Saturday at Brighton.
The noise coming out of the club is that the break came at the right time for the players and staff, and the Northern Irishman admits it was good to get away after such a tough period.

Claude Puel’s side head into the weekend 10th in the table, three points behind seventh-placed Watford, with that position again likely to earn a Europa League place.

The 30-year-old says Europe remains the goal for the campaign, whether that be through the Premier League or via one of the cup competitions. “I knew when I joined the club that it’s an ambitious club and I think the main target is to finish in qualifying for Europe,” he told the Leicester website. “I think that was a big disappointment for everyone last year and obviously there’s the cup competitions that we want to try and win. “It’s a long season and there’s been a few games this year where we feel like we’ve been hard done by but I think, like I say, the main aim for us is to finish in the top seven.”
