Everton chief director of football Marcel Brands has indicated that PSV Eindhoven’s Hirving Lozano is ready for a bigger challenge.
The Mexico attacker is set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Wednesday as a growing number of European clubs sit up and take notice of his potential.
Brands scouted Lozano in Mexico before PSV signed him in 2017 for just 8m euros and says he can see the 23-year-old is now more relaxed about what he can achieve in the game.

“Of course I am more distant now,” Brands told AD. “But I can see that he is already more relaxed with everything than last year because he now knows what it is like to play in the Netherlands and in Europe.
“Last year there was more pressure on him. In the sense of [it was] his first year abroad, there was a World Cup. Now Lozano knows he will always score twenty in the league.”
Brands was surprised to learn that since he signed Lozano, the Mexican has caused 30 different players to be booked for fouls against him.
“Thirty cards, yes? Unbelievable in such a short time,” he added.
“But actually when you look at his playing style, without wanting to compare, you know, Lozano has what Messi also has – a centre of gravity low to the ground, the ball is usually quickly under control, very explosive and agile. Then your opponents automatically force mistakes.”
