Justin Rose will take a one-shot lead into day two of the Dell Technologies Championship after carding a bogey-free round of 65 on Friday.
The Englishman, who failed to make the cut at last week’s opening event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, fired six birdies, including two at his final two holes of the day to move onto six-under-par for the tournament.
Rose, who could move to the top of the world rankings with a positive showing at TPC Boston, is taking nothing for granted, however, as he has had some mixed performances at the venue in the past.
“I’ve had some mixed results here,” Rose was quoted as saying on the PGA Tour website. “I’ve had some great weeks and I’ve had some poor weeks here. It’s a course I never really know exactly what to expect.
“But it’s a fun golf course.”
Scot Russell Knox is one stroke off the lead after he picked up four shots at his final four holes of the day, while he is joined on five-under by Mexican Abraham Ancer.
American quartet Chris Kirk, Beau Hossler, Keegan Bradley and Gary Woodland are a shot further back, while world number one Dustin Johnson is one of eight players on three-under.
