Ferguson Ready To Throw Punches

Lockie Ferguson says he is ready to be aggressive when New Zealand take on England in Sunday’s World Cup final at Lord’s. The Kiwis caused a big shock knocking India out at the semi-final stage and Kane Williamson’s men will be looking to banish memories of their World Cup final defeat suffered at the hands of Australia in 2015.

New Zealand arguably have a tougher challenge to win the tournament in this year’s final as they take on tournament hosts England, who thrashed the Aussies by eight wickets in the second semi-final. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow have both been earning plaudits for their performance at the top of the order for the English and breaking the partnership early could be key to glory.

Ferguson has been the star with the ball for the Kiwis in this tournament, taking 18 wickets, and insists he is ready to ruffle a few feathers at the home of cricket on Sunday. “It is my role to be aggressive and try and create chances, create wickets and put the batters under pressure,” he was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“England have been a top team for a number of years and they play an aggressive brand of cricket, but we like to play the same sort of brand, too. “With a team like that, that does throw a lot of punches, for me it’s important to throw punches back and be looking to be aggressive and take wickets.”
