Flower Eyes International Recognition

Wigan prop Ben Flower is confident carrying his form into 2019 can help him win a place on the Lions tour to the Southern Hemisphere.

The 31-year-old excelled for the Warriors last year, winning the Grand Final and like all British players, has extra motivation to shine in the new season.

For the first time since 2007, a collective Great Britain side will come together and tour in the autumn, playing in Tests against New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

Flower, who has 16 caps for Wales, believes the return of the Lions is good for rugby league and is confident he can book his place in Wayne Bennett’s squad for the trip.

“International rugby league needs to step itself back up and get there, and I think bringing the Lions back will boost that,” said Flower. “I think a lot of people have been wanting so see it come back for a long time now.

“I think if I can play how I did last year and how I’ve been playing for the last few years, I don’t think there’s a reason why I can’t get in. I feel I’m as good as anyone in Super League in my position.

“But it all comes down to performance and crucially not being injured. It’ll be awesome if I get picked and all I can do is play my best to get that spot.”
