Fognini Could Take Break After French Open

Fabio Fognini has suggested he may take a break from tennis after the French Open in a bid to resolve ongoing injury problems.

The Italian is through to the last 16 of the Monte Carlo Masters after fighting back from a set and a break down to beat Andrey Rublev in his opener before progressing thanks to a walkover as Gilles Simon pulled out.

However, Fognini says he is managing injuries to both his elbow and his ankle and the 31-year-old has indicated he could decide to take a break after the French Open.

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I am dealing with a pain on my right elbow, which is not healed but I am not worried by it. “My ankle conditions did not progress but it got even worse.

I took my decision, it’s not time to reveal it yet but I will play until the French Open, hoping to find the right week because I feel well while training.”
