Celtic have sent on-loan Leicester defender Filip Benkovic for scans after he pulled up with a suspected Achilles problem on Sunday. The 21-year-old Croatian centre-back was selected for the Scottish Premiership champions’ match against Kilmarnock but felt discomfort in his Achilles during the warm-up.
And, because of the player’s injury history, no-one was willing to take any risks until a proper diagnosis had been undertaken.
Speaking after the match, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers revealed that the player suffered a similar injury eight months ago and that they took the precaution not to play him ahead of a scan to find out the extent of the problem.
He told The Scottish Sun: “He unfortunately felt it in the warm-up. He had an issue with it eight months ago. On the surface he felt it tighten so he wasn’t fit to play.
“We will have to see how that is. Hopefully it’s not too bad. From being injured before he perhaps felt the same sensation.
“It was right he didn’t want to risk it. He will have a scan and we will see where we are at.”
