Frampton Eyes World Title Bout

Carl Frampton has set his sights on a world title bout after a bizarre injury ruled him out of his fight with Emmanuel Dominguez. The Jackal had been set to return to the ring for the first time since losing his IBF featherweight title bout with Josh Warrington last December by taking on Mexican fighter Dominguez in Philadelphia this weekend.

However, the former two-weight world champion was ruled out of the bout earlier this week after breaking a bone in his hand when a large ornament landed on him in a hotel room. The Northern Irishman was, understandably, left frustrated that he had to cancel the bout but is now more determined than ever to return to the ring and fight for another world title.

“I want to push on and go straight for a world title – go straight in at the deep at end and go out in a blaze of glory,” the 32-year-old said. “I don’t want to fight at the level of opposition like Emmanuel Dominguez. “The plan was to have this fight and then go for a world title. So the plan is to still fight for a world title in my next fight.”

Frampton also confirmed the incident that led to his injury could have been more severe had the ornament hit his head and he is now keen to move on from the whole situation. “Luckily the ornament hit my hand and not my head, for it would have killed me. It was absolutely bizarre, you couldn’t write it,” he added. “I’ve lost a purse, a potential shot at a world title and 12 weeks away from my wife and kids – I’m angry.”
