French Formula One duo Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon are no longer friends, according to Gasly, because of their close rivalry. Gasly, who will move to Red Bull next season, says the pair have known each other since their karting days but now their rivalry on the track is having a negative impact on their friendship.
The pair had a coming together in the Mexico Grand Prix which was investigated by the stewards where Gasly thought he was forced off the track by Ocon and, although the stewards did not agree with him over the Mexico incident, he says the rivalry is is costing them both. “At the moment it’s [the rivalry] not good for either of us.
We lost 2.5 seconds which caused me also a flat-spot,” Gasly told RaceFans. “In the end maybe he could have finished P10, I could have finished P9. “You need to be objective. “I try to focus on my race and try to make it clean but I think this was slightly over the limit. In the end I finished in front of him so that’s OK.”
