Garcia Confirms Australia Open Entry

Spaniard Sergio Garcia has confirmed his intention to play at the Australian Open just days after his KLM Open success. The world No.32 has decided to put his name forward for the Stonehaven Cup and a star-studded field will head to Sydney for the competition, which takes place between December 5-8.

Home favourites Marc Leishman, Jason Day and Cameron Smith are all set to play, while Ernie Els, Louis Oosthuizen and Paul Casey will all also head Down Under. The event will take place just before the Presidents Cup, which begins on December 9, and Garcia admits he is excited for the event.

He told reporters: “I can’t wait to get to Sydney and try to add my name to that trophy with such legends. “I have always found Australian crowds to be enthusiastic and knowledgeable, so hopefully I can put on a show for them. And I’m really looking forward to having a look around Sydney while I’m down.” Garcia will also be joined by Presidents Cup debutant CT Pan, who is set to feature for the Internationals at Royal Melbourne.
