Giampaolo Makes Uncertain Future Claim

Marco Giampaolo has confirmed that he will hold talks with Sampdoria’s owners before deciding if he will remain in charge next season.

The 51-year-old has been in charge of the Blucerchiati since summer 2016, but there is a chance that he could leave for pastures new in the summer as the side’s form has dropped off in recent weeks.

After it became clear Sampdoria couldn’t qualify for European football they have drawn one and lost three of their past four games, including Sunday’s 2-1 home reverse to an Empoli side battling to avoid relegation.

Giampaolo hit out at his players afterwards and said: “Unfortunately, this is just not good enough. “We have to fight the temptation to be ordinary.

We have to raise the bar every time and not rest on these laurels. “It was a pretty balanced game overall, the difference was in the details and motivation.

It wasn’t a bad season from this squad, but we had to perform in a different way today and remember we are representing an historic club with wonderful fans who deserve more respect.” And, when asked if he would still be in charge of Sampdoria beyond this season, he added: “In around 10 days, I’ll meet with the club owners and we’ll evaluate what should be done.

I have a strong rapport with the club, so we’re certainly not going to have a row. It’s very calm.”
