Giroud Told To Move On And Get First-Team Football

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has been told he may have to seek a move away if he is to make the France squad for the European Championships.

The comments have come from France coach Didier Deschamps, who wants the striker to be playing more regular football at club level, if he is to force his way into his side.

The 33-year-old again showed what he could do when he came off the bench to score what looked to be the winner for France in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Turkey on Monday night.

Kaan Ayhan grabbed a late leveller for Turkey in a 1-1 draw but it could take nothing away from the performances of Giroud, who continues to get goals for his country.

It was his third goal in four matches for France, yet he is struggling to get a look-in at Chelsea as Tammy Abraham continues to shine.

Deschamps admits there is little that can be done at the moment, but has suggested he may have to look for a move when the January transfer window opens. “You know, Olivier suffers his situation. Before January, nothing will move,”

Deschamps told reporters after the game. “After, it will be up to him to see. I hope he will have more playing time. But we cannot take away his goals, his good performances. He scores, he makes others play well. He knows he is under pressure, but he always responds.”

Giroud has recently spoken out saying he cannot accept Frank Lampard’s decision to leave him out, but will not criticise his Chelsea manager.

There is also little chance of Chelsea agreeing to let him move on in January as the club remain under a transfer embargo and could not sign a replacement.
Giroud will now be hoping the talk of the embargo being lifted is true, which could give him hope of a move away.
