Glasner Irked By Wasteful Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner felt his side missed a great chance to take all three points following Friday night’s 1-1 draw at Fortuna Dusseldorf. Niko Giebelmann gave the hosts a 16th-minute lead only for Wout Weghorst to level affairs for Die Wolfe 13 minutes later.

The result sees Wolfsburg sit second in the Bundesliga standings behind only early pacesetters RB Leipzig, with Dusseldorf 11th having taken four points from as many games played.

Glasner felt neither side did enough to win but was annoyed that his charges did not battle hard enough to get the return they desired. “At the end of the day, a draw is a fair result but I’m not entirely satisfied with our performance today,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s hard to get something from a game in Dusseldorf if you only win 43 per cent of your challenges.”
The usual suspects are just behind the top two, with Bayern Munich third on seven points and Borussia Dortmund in fifth with one fewer to their name.

The cream usually rises to the top and Wolfsburg will need to take every opportunity they can to try and finish in the top four.

With that in mind, Glasner knows they should have done better. “We’re going home with a point and we can live with that, but if we’d played to our best then we could’ve won here,” he added.
Bayern are away at Leipzig on Saturday and victory will see the Bavarian giants move to the top of the table.
