Glorious Journey Set For Group One Chance

Glorious Journey could be handed a Group One chance following his victory in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury. The four-year-old was kept in a prominent position throughout Saturday’s feature race by jockey James Doyle, before he hit the front inside the final quarter-mile to claim the victory by half a length.

Doyle has been impressed by the progress of the Charlie Appleby-trained gelding and he believes a Group One shot could now be on the cards, specifically the Prix de la Foret at ParisLongchamp. “We thought quite a bit of him as a two-year-old and he has got a fantastic pedigree.

We just lost him a little bit, I think dropping back in trip was Charlie’s idea and it has been the making of him. We dabbled at six, but seven furlongs is perfect for him,” Doyle said. “There is lot more to look forward to and I guess something like the Foret would be perfect for him.”

Doyle’s thoughts have been echoed by assistant trainer Alex Merriam, who feels a run in the Foret will be more likely if conditions are soft. “James said he travelled nicely into the race and he kept it nice and easy,” Merriam said. “I think he (Appleby) has mentioned the Foret so we would stick to seven and hopefully we would get a bit of ease in the ground over there.”
