Goldsworthy ‘Speechless’ After Penning Somerset Deal

Teenager Lewis Goldsworthy was lost for words after putting pen to paper on a first senior contract with Somerset on Sunday. The 18-year-old came through Somerset’s Academy to feature for the Second XI while he has also turned out for England Under-19s.

Goldsworthy, who is described by Somerset as a “promising slow left-arm bowler”, has impressed with the second side and is regarded as a potential star of the future. With that in mind, Somerset has handed over a two-year contract and Goldsworthy will attempt to force his way into the senior set up next season.

Goldsworthy told Somerset’s official website: “It’s an unreal feeling to have signed for the club that I’ve grown up watching and supporting. I was speechless when I was offered the contract by Andy Hurry. “The crowds in Taunton are unbelievable and the Club is well known for the support that it gets, so it would mean the world to me to make my debut for the First Team. Hopefully, that will come around soon.

“Coming from Cornwall means that there’s been a lot of travelling, and a lot of people have put in a lot of effort and commitment to help me get to this stage so a big thank you has to go to them. “Becoming a professional cricketer is something that I’ve wanted all my life, so hopefully I can make the most of this opportunity.”
